The Springfield art museum is currently showing beaded works by South African Ubuhle women. These women were at the bottom of society as they are illiterate, have no source of income and consequently lack self-esteem.
Until Bev Gibson, a business women worked to provide a market for these women’s Bead works. Museum exhibits followed in major cities like Paris and London. This experience brought forth a complete change in the self-esteem of these women as they became self-sufficient through recognition and sales of their work.
We were lucky enough to welcome Bev Gibson to our Museum exhibit recently. She shared details about her work with the Ubuhle Women and helped us better understand these works of art.
This exhibit is open until November 10.

TEXTURE PAINTING WORKSHOP

This is a one day express workshop
In this Workshop, I will show you a fun way to channel your latent creative energies into a work of art to be proud of.
Using an array of interesting specialty materials provided, we will be building an artistically flowing design on our canvas.
We will critique each other’s work before painting it. This will bring out your great detail work.
Max 5 students

- Matte medium, 16 oz or larger
- 4 canvases 12×12 and 24X18, 24×24, 24×30 or larger sizes
- Your paints, brushes and other usual stuff.
